Imperial-Scale Spending

Found this somewhat annoying article about the Japanese Imperial family’s spending habits (thanks NGG). It’s bad enough that I have to pay U.S. and Japanese taxes, and to find out it’s being used like this? The Imperial family is an important symbol for sure, but I think it’s about time Japan does a little introspection on how much it’s really worth. The Japanese are not exactly known for scrutiny and questioning, which is partly why a majority have no clue where their tax yen is going (at least in the states you can find out in a general sense). How many bums in the street will it take before people get a little more than just annoyed?
