social exit strategy

I mentioned a diary entry by Brian a few days ago. In another recent one (10.19.2003) he details an account of going out on the town and drinking his way to courage in chatting it up with some gals. But it was his last line that amused me:

Soon after that, the two girls made a run for the boarder using the excuse of “last train.”

For as developed a city as Tokyo is, almost everyone is annoyed that the trains stop soon after midnight and don’t start until about 5a.m. The transporation board claims this gives them time to handle daily maintenance. That’s hardly a reason for not running once every hour or so, as the NYC metro does. But I digress. The great thing about this sudden stoppage is that it gives socializing individuals a wonderful exit strategy if they ever find themselves in odd situations. Some drunken guy hitting on you? “I’m sorry, I have to catch my last train!” It’s perfect, undebateable, and works every time! To think the transportation board is giving us some socializing ‘assistance’!

Digg! delicious

  1. Brian the great

Yeah, “socializing assistance” is good, I suppose, so long as you aren’t on the receiving end of this retarded excuse like I was that night.
(By the way, ‘boarder’ should be ‘border.’ Silly me!)
