Fantastic entry by Kevin Laws titled “The Irony of Outsourcing.” Great lead-in:
Question: Since 1995, two million American manufacturing jobs vanished. How many manufacturing jobs did China add during the same period?
Answer: None. China lost sixteen million manufacturing jobs since 1995, a higher percentage of their manufacturing workforce than the US.

Schools in Japan

Good to see some people have brains when it comes to Japan’s public school system. Ultimately, reform in this country will happen in a few generations, when the current youth start to lead it. But with the current teaching system, that will never happen. So this is actually a good move — [...]

Investing in Models. Interesting idea. Reminds me of My Rich Uncle. The “model” market seems very big in Japan, seeing as 1/2 of the reason attendees are at any large show/convention is for the “companion gals”. Question is, who exactly “picks the stocks”? Cameron Diaz and, to a lesser extent, [...]

From Cubed3:
IBM is currently working with both Sony and Microscoft on their respective next-generation consoles, but it has now been revealed that the giant is also collaborating with Nintendo.

The weather in this country is bizaar, to say the least. Although winter seemed surely upon us for the past two weeks, and rain was forcasted for this past weekend, instead we got 26C heat and blue skies. All beautiful, except for the fact that during a half-marathon I ran Sunday morning, people [...]

gaits

Neat demo that helps visualize an individual’s gait based on a continuous sample of parameters (a little curious how that works under ’sex’). I often find myself recognizing people in the distance by their gait before I can actually see their face. Maybe now I can better understand how they’re feeling.

NYC Club Scene Revival

NYT article on NYC’s clubbing revival. Yeah, this happened out here in Tokyo a number of years ago. The revival in NYC is probably the result of an optimistic post-graduate youth amidst the slow economy. Or we could all just be in denial. Clubbing is a cheap luxury, like watching movies. [...]

You’ve got to be kidding. In other news, more pay, less responsibility, and free dinners at La Bisboccia produce record earnings.
