NHK’s Project X
Some of you may have heard about NHK’s Project X TV show. I’ve only watched one episode I think I mentioned a while back — about “Tron”, the operating system even more widely used than Microsoft’s Windows line. In fact, apparently the U.S. gov’t blocked it from entering its borders for fear of some Japanese operation coming to own a core section of almost any gadget needing an OS. Anyways, amidst its popularity, the show is starting to receive growing dissent as mentioned via this great article. Perhaps my favorite point:
The Japan Times commented that Project X missed the point as an inspirational programme. The reason for this is that the motivation of workers during economic growth is not the same as the motivation of workers in a post-development recession. Japan does not need inspiration; what it does need is leadership, it added.
Hear, hear! And not just Japan, but a few Japanese companies I won’t mention as well.
