Apple Plans Ahead

So here’s some speculation. Apple introduced G5 machines at WWDC 2003. Then, just before this year’s WWDC, they upped the specs on the PowerMac line. During the keynote this year, Jobs stressed Tiger’s new features and passed out an SDK at least 6 months before scheduled official release. So what might we expect at next year’s WWDC? At the least, G5 iMacs. “duh”, perhaps, and obvious once stated, but I think this clearly shows Apple is thinking hard about how to penetrate a market 90%+ dominated by Microsoft. By seriously appealing to developers with top of the line hardware, and passing out SDKs way in advance, expect to see a plethora of interesting applications built and ready by the announcement of iMac G5s at the next WWDC. iMacs are, of course, geared more towards the average Jane/Joe. Failing the Switch campaign, and now that Panther is the first Mac OS with over 50% of the Mac user base, it’s time to get back to increasing the non-technical user base. By then, G5 cooling issues should be resolved to fit in a smaller footprint. Maybe even a notebook :)
