web hosting: remarkably cheap

$9.95 a month for 20GB of storage, 1TB of bandwidth, and hundreds of email addresses? I couldn’t believe it myself. After rolling my own setup for years hosting this blog I got fed up with the nitty-gritty configuration-tweaking and security concerns in the extras like WebDAV, https, and emails in addition to efficient backups. Dreamhost has some pretty remarkable deals, all with a user interface even a luddite could decipher. Setting up your own presence on the web has never been so easy, and it’s no wonder there are so many internet startups able to test out ideas before studying the business model for viability. Where are these services in Japan?!

I still need to export the posts and comments from the old blog and get them imported here. And this design – it’s kinda bland, but I’ve got a web-designer friend in mind so it should be getting spicy over the next few weeks. In the mean time, you can briefly catch up on me and enjoy the static page on visiting Tokyo if you’re considerin’ a trip out this way.
