Whilst Orchestrate is my own project I don't see how it isn't relevant to the article. If I had to choose one English-language to-do list application to comment on, the choice is going to be something arbitrary whatever the case. It might be I like the logo (makes for a good blog screenshot), or I feel it has the best features, or it was the easiest to sign up for etc etc. How bad is it that I chose this app because it's one I made? As long as they are in the same league (I feel Orchestrate is a high quality app - it's just no frills, that's all).

I'd rather write about an app that hasn't been written about than put up yet another boring write-up on tadalists or rememberthemilk - both of which (as examples) have plenty of coverage and people already know about them.

And, really, it's not all about self-promotion. I get a tiny mention in the "about" section of Orchestrate. I'm also not making any money off it - do you see any ads? It's just a little tool that I run at a loss because I find it useful and I think other people will too.

Gen > as for the article's general quality, unfortunately other PingMag writers have the luxury of either working to their own schedules (freelance) or working full time for PingMag. I'm neither of those as I have plenty of IMG SRC project work to do and PingMag gets mere hours of my attention a week, despite the fact that I work in one of those Japanese companies where 14-hour days are quite normal. It got to the point where I was so overloaded with work that it was IMO unfair to expect me to write one article a week - effectively 1/4 of PingMag's overall output, considering that I am neither a full-time PingMag employee or contracted as a freelancer.

PingMag's direction is becoming more focused elsewhere anyway. I really don't think the magazine's current personality suits the kind of articles I want to write. As such I'm taking a bit of a hiatus from writing for it. Expect an announcement from me in the future regarding this (not on PingMag, on my blog and I'll let you know directly).

Cheers

I felt that both articles could have been better. The PingMag one- well Jon's promoting his own stuff, which is his right, but it's not quite objective. The RR/W piece is pretty fluffy for anyone who's in Japan. Benjamin hasn't been in Japan for over a year or more, so his news is old. I won't comment on the other guy in public.
