My incident goes global
Well okay, my experiences last week weren’t nearly as bad as the following, but it seems the xenophobic trouble that’s brewin’ isn’t just localized to Japan: Martin Varsavsky of Fon reports two American students were attacked by skinheads in Madrid. Could this have anything to do with Bush’s international politics and “leadership”?

Nope.

No. Most foreigners are smarter than that.
One thing about the skinhead incident, and possibly your experience in Japan: One of a few incidents do not necessarily make a national social and cultural issue. There are skinheads in Spain. There are also Scientologists, fascists, and santeros, too. In the US, there are KKK, Scientologists, UFO abductees, and Nazis. That these groups exists is something to acknowledge but you must be careful making remarks that can be interpreted as making the issue loom larger than it is.
Spain has a huge foreign population. If something like this were common you’d hear about it all the time, you’d sense it in the air (I live in Madrid). There is no skinhead problem, here. There are a few guys who are a PITA. Will it be a problem in the future? I don’t know but let’s keep things in context in the meantime.
