会場に入ってから最初の印象：　「すいてるな。良かった。」：）

思ってた通り新商品はかっこ良く展示されてました。パソコン全体のフォーカスは「Do Vaio」のインターフェースと感じました。まるでパソコンにテレビが突っ込んである状態。しかも PSX のインターフェースと似ている。ほとんどのパソコンに tv controller がついてました。去年の CES で安藤さんが報告した「ソニーはテレビを中心にフォーカスします」という感じはしましたが、こんなに「パソコン経由」とは思いがけなかった。

一番見てびっくりした商品：４chのビデオカメラマイク。くっ付いてたカメラは：これ 新Vaioについてくる DVD-ナンチャラソフトに 4ch –> Dolby 5.1 Creater というコンバーターがあるそうです。
どうやってDVに4chを録音しているのか詳しく説明してくれる人はいませんでした。もしかして ATRAC? ：）詳しくは：こちらへ

一番面白かった商品：type VGN-U50
かなりの専用ソフトが乗っかっていて、使いやすくしています。MDプレイヤーのヘッドホーンコントローラも繋げて使えます。画面も奇麗だし、ナビゲーションボタンが光ります。欲しくなっちゃいました。

見て一番心が落ちた商品：Vaio Pocket
美点：思ったより小さい。画面も奇麗。音も良かった。
欠点：「G-sense」のインターフェースは外れ。２５個のボタンなので、画面を２５桁に分かれている感じでナビゲートします。ポインターの動きが「散発的」。大数の曲をスクロールする時、リストの上にメニューが出るので曲名が 1/3 隠される。多くの曲を早くスキップも出来ない。報告している13,000曲を入れたら絶対使いにくい。

一番恥ずかしかった商品：type R desktop
この商品には、「Cooling Fun」がついてくるようです。（「Cooling Fan」ではなく。。。）

It’s perhaps not as negative as past columns, and as usual hits the nail on the head:

…policymakers themselves are more inclined to avoid problems than address them; would rather win bureaucratic feuds than co-operate; and base most of their decisions on emotion (such as fear of shame) rather than reason.

Solutions are offered, which is always a good thing in this case.

The New York Times also has a brief article on the push for greater foreign tourism in Japan. Read it here. An interesting quote that ties back to my previous entry for W Hotels:

Hotel rates may further soften as 4,000 new rooms go on the market in Tokyo by 2007. In the last year, three top-class hotels have opened, each anchoring a major new development: the Hyatt in Roppongi Hills, the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo in Marunouchi and the Royal Park Shiodome Tower in Shiodome. By 2007, they will be joined by the St. Regis Tokyo and the Peninsular Tokyo.

The reporter left out the Ritz Carlton, opening in 2005 (2007?) on the 防衛庁(bo ei cho) grounds between 乃木坂 (Nogizaka) and 六本木 (Roppongi). Read about the Ritz’s Asia expansion here.
