SALISBURY, NC (WSFA) The sixth seed Tuskegee Golden Tigers defeated the third seed Catawba Indians 26 16 on Saturday to advance to the next round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs.The Golden Tigers stepped on the gas quick, scoring the first 14 points of the game, and never let up.Tuskegee scored two touchdowns on its first two possessions of the game, and held that 14 0 lead until midway through the third quarter.The Golden Tigers’ first touchdown came on a 39 yard pass from quarterback Kevin Lacey to Peyton Ramzy to put Tuskegee up 7 0. On the next Tuskegee drive, Jerome Lewis punched it in from two yards out to make it 14 0.The Indians cut into the Golden Tigers lead in the second half, scoring ten unanswered points, but the Tuskegee offense answered with a 12 yard pass from Lacey to Leo Gilbert to make it a 20 10 game.On the Indians’ next drive of the game, linebacker Jewell Ratliff intercepted a Catawba pass and returned it for a touchdown to put the Golden Tigers up 26 10.Lacey finished the game, completing 10 passes on 18 attempts for 219 yards and two touchdowns.Lacey’s favorite target was Travis Hawkins who had three receptions for 67 yards.The Golden Tigers were led on the ground by Dennis Norfleet who had 88 yards on 18 carries.Tuskegee will move on to face North Alabama in the DII playoffs on Nov. 28.
