So, how were your Christmas and New Year’s celebrations? Did you get anything and everything you were hoping for?  For this year’s winter vacation I decided to get some quiet fresh air in Central Oregon.  Santa did not disappoint, even in this remote part of the U.S.
One of the first things I do after landing [...]

BarCamp Tokyo!

People of the web in Tokyo, listen up!  BarCamp is coming to town!  And it looks like the “large software company” might be IBM.  So mark your calendars – January 27th, 2007.  Looks to be a good fusion – and then some – of Pechakucha and Mobile Monday.  Who knows, maybe yours truly will have [...]

A Rhyme for oDesk

Inspired was I, one night in San Fran
while visiting family and friends,
to create a website for those in Japan,
that was fun and followed pop trends.
I whipped up the spec as oDesk requests,
and posted one night to hire.
Next mornin’ I woke, and to my delight,
The response put my Inbox on fire!
Coders from Russia, India, China,
even a [...]

Akiba Trends: Stack up, then stack up some more

« 2 November 2006 | 1:43 | Japan, geekery, scitech, tokyo life | No Comments »

I’ve been doing a lot of errand runs to Akihabara lately for two clients, and after a few consecutive trips I’ve noticed two interesting trends in the hard-disk market.  First, now that SATA and SATA-II are pretty well adopted in the desktop market, a “portable version” to rival USB and Firewire is picking up steam.  [...]

MacBook Random Shutdown – Fixed!

For many MacBook owners, the acronym “RSS” had a different meaning for the past 6 or so months.  The most commonly accepted definition refers to the syndication protocol Really Simple Syndication (for version 2.0, with slight variations on the theme for previous versions), as popularized through blogging.  But for the past 4 or so months [...]

The “Lite” in Nintendo’s recently released DS Lite isn’t just about its feather-weight design – check out this amazing amateur newsreel comparing the brightness between the original DS to the Lite!  I’m definitely in the market for one now.

Flickr Upload Limit

I gotta say, this Flickr thing is quite the service. After doing a fresh install of Tiger on my personal server box, I decided to give it a try. The idea of installing the open source project Gallery just didn’t appeal to me after hearing my friend Paul had his gallery hacked last [...]

underwater, upside-down, and now from the boardgame to real life. It’s actually quite fun – I’m playing it now ;)

Doom. 3. Whoa.

« 15 March 2005 | 19:12 | diary, geekery | 1 Comment »

Uh oh. I thought I was done with computer games. Now, as if my social life wasn’t already in jeapordy with work and online projects, Doom3 (finally!) comes out. I remember freshman year in college initially being the only one who used the mouse playing DoomII/Quake/QuakeII. Floormates thought I was nuts. [...]

Talk about low barriers to entry!

Whoa, I feel like a guineapig testbed experimenting with just how easy it is to setup a personal server with the Mac Mini. Everything is so easy, literally clicking buttons, and now I officially have my own internet radio station courtesy of Rogue Amoeba’s Nicecast player. This thing rocks! Here’s my setup:

A network [...]
