From IEEE Spectrum:
Worldwide copies of [X] sold in 2003:
DVD-A: 400,000
SACD: 1,300,000
LPs: 1,500,000
Interesting how such old technology is still so popular. SACDs have been around for a few years now…

Recent email exchange I thought I’d share:
We’re just debating the sound quality of the new Network Walkman vs. a regular MP3 Player. (We haven’t actually listened to the Network Walkman yet. [X]’s ordered one and I’m debating whether or not to get one.) [X] wants to store all of Bach’s works on his and I [...]

Rob Glaser answers ten questions about Real Networks, Real Player, Harmony, etc.

« 8 July 2004 | 16:14 | media, music, scitech, sonystyle | 4 Comments »

Thought I would share this exchange since Sony’s 20GB HDD player has been in the news lately. First, my original email:
While it’s true there is no standard format for compressed audio, I think the following “slide” is telling:MP3: Windows, Mac, Linux — Free!
AC3: Windows, Mac, Linux — Free!
AAC: Windows, Mac, Linux — Free!
WMA: Windows, [...]

Rocker says iTunes rocks

PBS Frontline has an interesting interview with music legend David Crosby. Choice quote:
I think the only way to sell records that I know about now that does look really, really, really promising is iTunes. I think Apple is the smartest company in the country, and they are doing something brilliant.
